Cinéma : MuMaBox – “Voir New York”

LE HAVRE

Sans titre-1

Description

The city, a place of flux and encounters, a place of all possibilities, an expression of modernity, has always inspired filmmakers of all stripes. New York, paradigm of the modern metropolis whose power of extreme fascination continues to attract all the artistic avant-gardes, was the city where underground cinema – far from the Hollywood studios – gained a foothold under the impetus of Jonas Mekas. Some of the most radical films in the history of cinema were shot in New York, such as Andy Warhol?s Empire, a filmic monument (8 hours of still shots) about an urban monument (the Empire State Building).
Part documentary, part experimental, this program brings together six films, six visions of New York over more than a century.

Echoing Marie-Pierre Bonniol?s program “La Ville” on April 4 and 5 at Le Volcan.
